It was another incredible summer of fishing here in the Lowcountry of Beaufort, Hilton Head, and Fripp Island South Carolina! As fall starts to arrive it always makes me smile looking back on all the great memories during the warmer months of fishing. This summer was as hot as usual but the early mornings and late evening still proved to shine with plenty of excellent action on the low tides/flood tides with fly anglers. Simply hard to beat watching the sunrise or sunset while being hooked up to a redfish here in the Lowcountry! The action on light tackle was also great during the falling and rising tides with plenty of redfish, trout, flounder, lady fish, blue fish, sharks, Jacks, and other summer species. Here are a few photos from recent trips
One of my favorite memories from this summer and a personal life long goal was catching a Tarpon on Fly here in the Lowcountry! Well after a few years of research and great year of fishing for them in Florida, it was time to make it happen here. I took the tactics I learned in Florida and put them to use here in South Carolina. I cannot tell you enough how amazing it felt to pole my angler to multiple shots at Tarpon sight fishing in shallow water. Cameron Murray from Savannah, GA was my client that day and sealed the deal by putting the fly where it needed to be after a few good shots. Watching this beauty eat was incredible along with 4 really good jumps. After a 30 minute battle on the 11wt the fish broke off around 15ft from the boat, incredible day, not to mention he landed a bunch of tailers on the flood tide before that. Feels very good to be one of the very few guides to ever pole a client to a Tarpon on fly here in South Carolina!
